Prof. Dr. med. Roger Wahba has excellent expertise in all areas of general, visceral and oncologic surgery and would not only like to build on the experience gained at Berlin-Buch, but also to set new priorities:

The range of services offered by the department includes surgical treatment of all abdominal organs. From the esophagus to the treatment of tumors of the colon and rectum in the certified interdisciplinary colorectal oncology center. In addition, general, visceral and oncologic surgery includes liver and pancreatic diseases, patients with chronic inflammatory bowel disease and reflux disease, and peritoneal cancer surgery. In addition, the department performs surgeries on endocrine organs - thyroid and adrenal glands.

Most surgical interventions are performed in general, visceral and oncologic surgery, including cancer, using minimally invasive techniques (keyhole surgery). In addition, the clinic has a robot-assisted surgical system with which a wide range of minimally invasive procedures can be performed with high precision thanks to the latest technology. General, visceral and oncology surgery works closely with other specialized departments such as gastroenterology, oncology, interventional radiology and radiation therapy. Here, a team of proven specialists utilizes modern, innovative treatment methods to provide the best and most adapted form of therapy. Patients from the entire Berlin-Brandenburg region benefit from the interdisciplinary approach, the high level of oncologic expertise and the short distance to the hospital.

Since June 2022, the Department of General, Visceral and Oncologic Surgery at Helios Berlin-Buch has been offering patients the ERAS® (Enhanced Recovery After Surgery) program to optimize recovery after major surgery. By standardizing treatment procedures, ERAS® has reduced the risk of complications after surgery, accelerated recovery of mobility and independence, and enabled faster discharge.

Prof. Dr. Wahba studied human medicine at the Faculty of Medicine of Albertus Magnus University in Cologne. Since 2011, he has been a specialist in surgery. In 2014, he also successfully completed his training as a specialist in visceral surgery and received advanced training in specialized visceral surgery, including transplant surgery. In 2016, he received additional qualification in “Special Visceral Surgery”. Prof. Wahba confirms his specialized knowledge in the field of oncologic surgery by obtaining the UEMS European Specialist Certificate in “Surgical Oncology”.  Since 2011, he has worked as a senior physician in the Department of General, Visceral, Tumor and Transplant Surgery at the University Hospital Cologne. In 2015, he established the peritoneal cancer treatment program there. He has been surgical director of the Liver Cancer Center since 2018 and managing senior physician since May 2021. His research interests include investigating innovative technologies such as augmented reality and their application in complex abdominal surgeries.
