The American Oncology Institute (AOI) was opened in 2006 in central India by a team of leading oncologists from the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center (UPMC) in the United States of America (USA). It is one of the best cancer hospitals in India and South Asia, providing comprehensive and highly specialized services, treatment and proper care for various types of cancer. It has 16 affiliated cancer hospitals across India and South Asia.
The institute's multidisciplinary team consists of highly qualified American and Indian physicians, including radiation oncologists, pathologists, oncologic surgeons, hematologic oncologists, medical oncologists, neurosurgeons and urologists. Many of the specialists are recipients of world awards and honors. Also all doctors regularly improve their knowledge at the best universities in the U.S. and implement in practice the latest techniques of detection of oncology, approved by American professors. The clinic employs a competent team of trained nurses, qualified dosimetricians, medical physicists and other support staff in addition to the core staff.
The AOI holds an International Tumor Board every week, where a multidisciplinary team, including physicians from the United States, adjudicate complex cancer cases. For example, specialists make unanimous decisions on diagnosis and treatment based on U.S. university-level protocols.
