    Soroka Medical Center is a clinic that effectively treats various types of cancer, cardiological and neurological diseases.     The medical center has the biggest pediatrics department in the country, which consists of 3 units: Dalet (treatment of general diseases), Aleph (infectious disease treatment), and Bet (lung disease treatment).     The clinic treats cancer at all stages with the use of various methods: surgery, chemotherapy, stereotactic surgery and radiotherapy. Immunotherapy is used as part of comprehensive cancer treatment. It is designed to help the patient's immune system fight cancer. Psychotherapy is available for cancer patients.

    The hospital unit can take in 1,100 patients at the same time. Every year, 30,000 surgeries are held at the clinic, and over 12,000 patients get an MRI there.

    History

    The clinic was opened in 1959. The center was named after one of its founders, Prof. Moshe Soroka. The International Ladies' Garment Workers' Union led by David Dubinsky donated US$1 million towards establishing a medical center.

    • The clinic has Joint Commission International (JCI) accreditation. JCI is an independent organization that specializes in hospital accreditation. JCI monitors safety levels, treatment protocols, types of procedures, technical equipment and staff qualifications.

    • The hospital received an ISO 14001 accreditation, which reaffirms its "green hospital" status. This means that the clinic is environmentally oriented. The hospital collects expired drugs, recycles paper, plastic bottles and cans.

    The most effective surgeries and procedures

    • Organ preserving cancer surgery: a surgery that removes a cancerous tumor or part of a cancerous tumor while preserving the patient's healthy tissues.

    • Radiotherapy with the use of linear accelerators: targeted irradiation of cancerous cells with minimally damaging effect on surrounding tissue. Five-year life expectancy rate after such operations reaches 82%.

    • Bone marrow transplantation: transplantation of the patient's or donor stem blood-forming cells.

    • In vitro fertilization: a process of fertilization where an egg is combined with sperm in vitro. The fertilized egg is returned to a woman's womb to grow and develop.

    The clinic's comfortable one-bed hospital rooms are equipped with modern furniture, TV, Wi-Fi, an individual bathroom and shower. There are several pharmacies on the territory of the clinic, including a cancer-oriented pharmacy.

    Patients faced with hair loss after a chemotherapy course can choose a quality wig there. Student volunteers visit the clinic to help cancer patients go through this difficult period.

    Location

    The clinic is located in the city of Beersheba, a 40 minute car ride away from the Dead Sea. The city is home to many historic and cultural attractions. Patients can visit the Turkish Bridge, the National Park, the Beit Eshel lookout, Abraham's Well, and the Allenby Park. There are many other places worth seeing, such as the Banias Spring, museums of Bedouin culture, the Israeli Air Force Museum and the Museum of Military Glory of David Mudrik.

    It takes about 2 hours by public transport and just over an hour by car to reach the clinic from Ben Gurion Airport in Tel Aviv.
