The BM Birla Heart Research Centre was founded more than 30 years ago by the late, well-known Indian industrialist and philanthropist B.M. Birla in Calcutta, eastern India. Today, it is one of the hospitals in India with state-of-the-art infrastructure that offers visitors specialized cardiac care in the diagnosis and treatment of cardiovascular diseases in adults and children. This is made possible by a large team of world-renowned highly qualified cardiologists and cardiac surgeons. The clinic also conducts various research works and trains medical workers for their future work.

The size and equipment of the center allow it to admit 210 patients at a time for inpatient treatment, 78 of them in the intensive care unit. During the work of the clinic, specialists have performed more than 19,000 surgical interventions, both minimally invasive and open-heart. It is worth noting that the youngest patient with a successfully performed surgery was 9 days old, and the oldest was 94 years old.
