The clinic held its first heart surgery on March 26, 1986, and the first heart transplant surgery on April 18, 1986. In just 18 months, on September 27, 1987, the center marked its 100th heart transplant surgery.
The clinic was the first one in the world to use an artificial heart transplant as a temporary substitute for a child waiting for a donor heart. It was also the first hospital in the world to recover the patient's own heart within 160 days after temporarily replacing it with an artificial heart.
On March 1, 2008, the clinic opened the first hybrid surgery room in Berlin, which allows to perform general surgery and heart surgery at the same time. The room is equipped with an HD video system, an X-ray transparent operating table and a complete angiography section. On August 1, 2012, the clinic established a separate Department of Congenital Heart Surgery led by pediatric heart surgeon Dr. Joachim Photiadis.

These include some of the largest Berlin university clinics, such as the Robert Koch Research Institute and the Cardeotech Academy. The Wedding district has more than that to boast. How about five splendid parks and the Plötzensee lake. The district is near the downtown, yet it is cozy and quite, and ideal for rest and restoration.
