In 1918, Hadassah established its first medical unit in Palestine composed of 45 doctors. The doctors helped set up 6 hospitals and nurse training schools in Palestine. In 1919, Hadassah set up a department that gave routine health examinations to Palestine's school children. In 1921, it opened a hospital in Tel Aviv and the first mother and child care center in Jerusalem. A year later, a hospital opened in Haifa. Four more years later, Hadassah opened its first tuberculosis center. The Mt. Scopus campus was built in 1939, and the Ein Kerem center was constructed in 1961. The main tower finished construction in 2012.
