History
The clinic was founded in 2000, as three major medical institutions merged, Oskar-Helene-Heim, Heckeshorn Lung Clinic and a local state hospital.
The Oskar-Helene-Heim hospital was founded in 1905. This is the year when a manufacturer Oskar Pintsch with his wife Helene established a healing center for teaching and treating disabled adolescents. The center then developed into a university clinic for orthopedics and trauma surgery well known outside Berlin.
Since 1947, Heckeshorn Clinic was a municipal tuberculosis hospital, one of the most important Lung Center and Thoracic Surgery in Germany.
The newly established center, based on three hospitals, embraced and carried on the traditions of each foundation clinics - lung diseases therapy and orthopedics and traumatology. The name Emil von Behring was borrowed from the local state hospital.
