    The hospital is equipped with the latest technology. Its specialists use state-of-the-art ultrasound equipment, the latest models of MRI machines, a modern mammograph for female breast diagnostics, a CT scanner, a positron emission tomograph and other equipment. All the necessary radiological diagnostic procedures can be carried out here. Other than that, the Institute of Pathology has its own lab where a whole range of expert microscope tests are done, including histological and immunohistochemical studies, molecular pathology studies, frozen tissue examination and other types of tests.

    Over 3,500 adult and pediatric surgeries are carried out in the four surgical departments of the hospital. Most of the surgeries are minimally invasive.

    History of the clinic

    Sana Hospital Lichtenberg was built in 1911-1914. It was initially called the Oskar-Ziethen-Krankenhaus (OZK). Construction works started on 3 July, 1911 under the leadership of city planner Johannes Uhlig. The hospital with 450 beds opened its doors for patients in October 1914.

    Since 2005, the hospital has formed part of Sana private clinics.

    In October 2007, a new building was completed in Fanningerstrasse. The building has four floors with an area of around 9,500 square meters. Most of the departments are located in this building, including an intensive care unit, Radiology and Pathology Institutes, the Surgical Center, and the departments of Cardiology and Geriatrics.

    Another modern building with an area of 5,000 square meters was constructed in 2012. It is now home to the Mother and Child Center.

    Sana Hospital Lichtenberg is located next to Berlin's city center, close to Berlin-Lichtenberg railway station. It takes 40 minutes to get to the hospital from Berlin Brandenburg Airport by suburban train and about 35 minutes by car if there is no traffic.

    Lichtenberg is one of the oldest districts of Berlin: its history dates back to the 13th century, when a village of the same name was mentioned for the first time. Today, it is a comfortable green district with a number of historic buildings. Here, visitors can find the Stasi Museum (the former secret police), the Coptic Orthodox Church, the Rathauspark, and a large number of hotels, restaurants, cafes and shops.
