    History of the clinic

    The clinic began construction in 1951. The Israeli government invested significant resources in this hospital, which is why it took Israel quite a while to finish construction of the hospital.

    It was finally opened in 1963. The hospital was named after a Tel Aviv official who supervised its construction, Mordechai Ichilov.

    In 1973, the clinic was renamed in honor of Eliyahu (Elias) Sourasky, a famous Israeli philanthropist. Renamed Tel Aviv Sourasky Medical Center, it now encompasses three hospitals over an area of 150.000 square meters: Ichilov General Hospital and Ida Sourasky Rehabilitation Center, Lis Maternity Hospital, and Dana Children's Hospital.
